Carpet care tips

1 - Vacuum your carpets at least twice a week, more so in high traffic areas so as to help stop dirt and grit wearing out the fibres prematurely. 

2- Deal with spills as soon as they happen by blotting them up with a clean white towel or kitchen roll.  Blot the spillage rather than rubbing it into the pile.  If you have a bottle of Dirtbusters stain remover follow the instructions on the side.

3 - Invest in a good quality doormat, let this take the soil from your shoes and not the carpet.

Different types of carpet

There are many different types of carpet consisting of different fibres and cuts such as -

Tufted carpet - This is made by punching the pile yarn into a pre-formed woven primary backing fabric using needles and then applying a secondary backing fabric with latex.

Woven Carpet - There are two types of woven carpet known as Axminster and Wilton. Woven carpet is made the traditional way weaving the front and back of the carpet simultaneously and is consequently more labour intensive.  Axminster carpet is predominantly patterned with unlimited colour potential. It offers extremely good pattern definition and dimensional stability. Wilton tends to be used for plain carpet and textures but it can use up to 5 colours.

Cut and loop piles - The cut and loop pile combines both looped and cut fibers. They provide a variety of surface textures for durability. Cut and loop carpets are available in either solid or different colours.
